Janet Cardwell

My background is in textile design.  I taught adult education classes and at 6th form college.  Also worked freelance for magazines.  I have always enjoyed being creative.  My painting evolved into mixed media and mixed techniques, often incorporating monoprint.  Now I'm loving the process of hand pulled printmaking, using an etching press.

I use drypoint, monoprint, and collagraph techniques, often combined.  The plates are created using texture and pattern (composition).  The best part (and most important) is the colour - and each print pulled off the same plate can be totally different, a varied edition, or very different, and can be classed as individual monoprints.

With many variables and techniques for inking a printmaking plate, I never tire of the reveal when the print has passed through the press.
